These vignettes come together to achieve the highest aims of the essay form — showing the reader a consciousness playing out on the page, allowing us to understand how the past and present bleed into one another. We see the author as both the caregiver and the cared for, the rooted and the untethered, the happy and the restless. And the episodic form only helps crystalize the beautiful imagery and unwavering honesty. I could close my eyes and see all of it, and I was excited to read more.”
